Every parent wants to teach their child to protect themselves. This can come in many forms. We are no different.
Our children have had a lot of pain in their lives. They suffered trauma at a young age before we adopted them. So, we want them to have every possible to available to protect themselves. Yet, they are young and more emotionally immature in some ways than their peers.
The question of whether we should teach them magic yet becomes a big deal because of this lack of maturity.
It is not a question of age but a question of how they will use the knowledge they receive.
For now, we have chosen to teach them about the Earth, our Ancestors, and the Gods. We teach them about treading more lightly on the Earth, about working with Nature, and what the holy days mean.
We feel it is appropriate for them to know about other cultures and their traditions, to know the myths and legends, and to learn some of the runes and oghams.
However, the actual use of magic is not yet something they are ready for. They are not too young, they are too immature to use it responsibly.
When did you start teaching your child magic? How did you know they were ready?
